Microlaryngeal Surgery

Microlaryngeal surgery is a specialized surgical procedure that involves operating on the larynx (voice box) using precise, minimally invasive techniques. It is often performed to diagnose or treat conditions affecting the vocal cords and other structures within the larynx. This type of surgery requires the use of specialized instruments and an endoscope, which provides a magnified view of the larynx.

Uses

Microlaryngeal surgery can be used to treat a variety of conditions, including:

  • Vocal cord nodules, polyps, or cysts: These benign growths can cause hoarseness and other voice problems.
  • Laryngeal papillomatosis:A condition caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV) that leads to the development of benign tumors on the vocal cords.
  • Vocal cord paralysis or paresis: Microlaryngeal surgery can be used to reposition or repair paralyzed or partially paralyzed vocal cords.
  • Laryngeal cancer: In early-stage cancer, microlaryngeal surgery may be used to remove cancerous tissue while preserving as much healthy tissue as possible.
  • Improved Diagnosis and Treatment: Narrowing of the airway below the vocal cords, which can be treated using microlaryngeal techniques.
  • Subglottic stenosis: Patients can view the images of their own ears on the screen, which helps them understand their condition and the healthcare provider's recommendations.
